Academy Report: Hendon 0-2 Chelsea U21s

Dermot Drummy and the Under 21s rounded off pre season preparations well last night, with a 2-0 win over Drummy's old club; Isthmian Premier Hendon.
As announced before the game, many players featuring in the club's first u21 league fixture on Friday against Tottenham were rested and 2 players who nobody would have considered for the line up, Jon Harley and Jody Morris joined the team. Neither of the ex Chelsea mem have teams and used the match as a route to fitness and both did well.
Two, more exciting prospects also joined the team for the first time this season. Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah both featuring for the entire match.
It has to be said that the match was not as exciting as earlier games have been in pre season. The first paced flowing football was replaced with possession against a difficult and fit side who were hard to break down.

The first half was like this throughout. McEachran going close with the only chance for Chelsea and Ben Killip who has impressed in goal was untested until he collected a tame effort at around 40 minutes. The break through came on half time, McEachran in a box to box role powering forward with the ball pushed on the edge of the box and a penalty given. It was a harsh decision against a Hendon back line that included ex Chelsea defender Michael Duberry but McEachran showed very little mercy. He stepped up himself for the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way trickling the ball into the bottom corner.

The second half was a more lively affair, substitutions brought fresh legs and youthful exuberance and Chelsea's flowing play began to come back. All of the Chelsea changes were made between the 46th and 60th minute. The most notable being Ben Pattie. A name nobody had seen on the team sheet before. At 16 he has bee playing for Hemel Hempstead and has been given a trial and Drummy clearly thought this was an ideal time to see what he's made of. Pattie replaced and ineffective Feruz up front and justified the interest. Lamisha Musonda who had good spells of possession and play on the right continuously getting the ball into the box but with nobody arriving to convert.
Although the play was better still no real clear cut chances prevailed. Pattie had the best chance shooting just wide and it was the trialist who scored the second goal.
In the last few minutes of the match, Musonda on the right again played a sumptuous ball into Pattie who shrugged off the defender and slotted into the bottom corner past the on rushing keeper. A great move and finish and a moment to remember for the young man.

The match finished 2-0 and most left happy, Hendon raising further money for their supporter's trust and Drummy happy to see new and old players doing well.
